Department of Industrial Microbiology was established in 2002
Microbiology is a specialized area of biology that deals with study of microbes ordinarily too small to be seen without magnification. It is estimated that only about 1 % of all of microbe species on earth have been studied. They are relevant to our lives in multitude of ways.Industrial microbiology has number of applications like :
- Microbes are responsible for beneficial process such as industrial fermentation.
- Use of microorganisms to produce organic acids, chemical, antibiotics and also use to control insect pests.
- Helps in degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon with reference to genetically manipulated strain.
- Microorganisms also contribute to human or animal health by prebiotics and probiotics.
- Recombinant DNA applications to anaerobic fixed film systems for methane biosynthesis.
- Microorganisms could be useful in treatment of cancer.
