Since its inception in 1958, Department of Economics continues to be a leading centre of teaching, research and learning of Economics. It comprises the total strength of approximate 1200 students in the courses offered by the department

  • Faculty Members

At present the Department has  seven  well qualified, competent and experienced faculty members. They contribute academically by doing minor research projects, publishing extensively in research journals of repute ,magazines and news papers, attending and presenting papers in National and International Seminars, Conferences and Workshops.

  • Infrastructure

The Department has well equipped classrooms with LCD, Seminar rooms, Computer Lab, Smart Classrooms, enriched Library with books, journals, magazines, periodicals news papers, Government reports and surveys.

  • Departmental Activities

The Department has continous series of activities like Extension lectures by renowned academicians; seminars and workshops sponsored by U.G.C. Delhi and D.H.E Haryana; A.D. Shroff Memorial Elocution contest sponsored by forum of Free Enterprise, Bombay; Personality development Programmes and different competitions like essay writing and declamation contests.If anyone is interested in investigating a particular topic or economic issue further , the dept provides several options ,supervised by faculty members with research interests and expertise in that area.

  • Performance

Over the years, the Department has consistently good results with university positions, distinctions and gold medals. The department has also been very successful in placing its master graduates in various fields like banking, teaching, insurance, research, self-employment, corporate houses and various competitive exams.

Student- Centered teaching, special attention to weak students, remedial classes, tutorial groups, religious classes and NET coaching classes and classes for the bright students through academic council are the other special features of the department.

 Why to study Economics

  • The study of economics is an excellent way to acquire problem-solving skills and develop a logical, ordered way of looking at problems. It leads naturally to careers in business, law, education , banking ,insurance ,journalism, public policy , diplomacy ,environmental science , medical administration ,international affairs  and in  research and consulting.
  • It is one of the most  important subject offered by the students for different competitive exams i.e. Indian Economic Services ( IES), Indian Administrative Services ( IAS). Recent surveys of arts colleges and universities indicate that economics continues to rank among the most popular subject chosen by students at UG and PG level .
  • An understanding of economics is relevant  to advance study in such fields as History ,Political science ,Sociology ,Geography and Anthropology . Some of our economics topics also relate specifically to legal ,environment, health and demographic issues.
  • After a solid grounding in economic theory, one can learn statistical tools to analyze data and imterpret it.
  • Economics can equip us to participate more successfully in the increasingly knowledge-based and interdependent global economy . What determines the prices of the goods and services on which we spend our income, and the prices of the stocks and bonds in which we invest.
  • Economics can give us a better understanding of the objectives, methods and limitations of government economic policy. How can government policy help to reduce environmental pollution? How does the tax system affect the incentives for people?
  • From a personal perspective, the study of economics  provides us  with a systematic framework for analyzing, researching, writing, and teaching about a wide array of financial and regional economic issues.

All the  students can get benefits from the exposure to economics, and are  therefore encouraged to take advantage of the wide variety of courses offerings available within the   economics department .Given moral commitments of the present faculty ,the present department is imbibed with the spirits of handling challenges and has a bright future .
